A Public Opinion…

Here’s the thing…

When it comes to politics or business, you’re free to believe what you want and hold opinions that may be contrary the official line – but if you Tweet it, blog it or FB it, you’re just going to make it easier for governments/corporations and other bastards to track you down and fuck your shit up for putting it out there.

Wikileaks has shown that not all publicity is good publicity. Governments and corporations have woken up to that (the PR industry? Not so much) and they’re not taking it lying down. They’re going after soft targets: people willing to speak their minds and do so on record.

The irony is that you can still have a verbal conversation about the very same opinion and that’s OK…for now. Yes, I know that sounds all so very conspiracy-theorist but you’d be kidding yourself if you think you’re not being tracked online as it is. Yes, even without logging into Google.

So I guess the moral is the next time you feel like blogging, tweeting or FB’ing your opinion about something controversial in the public domain, make sure you’ve considered all the possible consequences…even those that seem so farfetched, they’re something out of a dystopian police state.

Oh and don’t wear a denim jacket with jeans. Not even if you’re Corey Haim reincarnated…
